Introducing SocialRank Realtime (A Social Media Command Center For One)

Over the past few months we have been discussing what we should build next at SocialRank. We spent the first three years building a very powerful and easy to use audience segmentation software for social media. Unlike other social media tools, SocialRank empowers you to see exactly who your followers are (instead of just a couple line graphs and bar charts.) This has helped Fortune 500 companies, brands, celebrities, startups, nonprofit organizations, presidential candidates and more to understand and activate their audiences on Twitter and Instagram. These activations have been everything from mobilizing marketing campaigns (ranging from local events and product seeding) to targeted advertising and competitive analysis.

While dealing with audience data, and focusing on being the best granular audience tool for social media, we were always asked what we could do with content. We never had a great answer and purposefully shied away from building any publishing tools and dealing with content (there are some incredible tools out there and we couldn’t figure out what we could offer that would be unique to us). Well, we have figured it out and are excited to release SocialRank Realtime today.

 

What is SocialRank Realtime?

We like to think of SocialRank Realtime as a one-person command center for brands and agencies. Using machine-learning algorithms and A.I. we are taking the billions of tweets that go out each month that have “wants” and “needs” and understanding the emotions and feelings behind them (ranging from anger in airports and hunger at work to needing coffee when studying for midterms and being bored without plans for the weekend,) transforming them into opportunities, and serving them to brands to fulfill on social in realtime.

Think of it as a combination of a listening tool, with response/engagement and customer care pieces to it. We wrapped it all together in something we call form, fulfillment, and measurement. Now, these wants and needs aren’t always clear. There are explicit wants and needs like “I need a Hawaii vacation right now” to “I need Starbucks.” There are also implicit wants and needs like “I need a vacation” and “I need coffee.” SocialRank Realtime finds them all and serves them up to brands to decide whether or not they want to activate them right there.

If you look at social media, most interactions from brands are either broadcasting or reactive. Broadcasting is the default position of brands on social, it is just posting, sharing, pinning, snapping, etc. Reactive is things like support or customer care. The beauty of SocialRank Realtime is that it lets brands get proactive with their customer experience. Instead of waiting for someone to complain about your airline in an airport, you can go and find everyone having a bad experience in an airport and turn their anger and frustration into a positive interaction with your brand.

Another big theme wave that SocialRank Realtime rides is around one to one experiences, authenticity and moments on social. Talk to any brand or agency and they will tell you they want more of those things in 2017. If you have $50k to spend on social, is it better to broadly target folks using a DMP or have a few hundred authentic interactions with customers or potential customers? With click fraud, ad-blockers and the like only growing in size — brands are opting to do a combination, adding the one to one at scale offerings and taking the best content created and then pushing through the DMPs.

 

How does SocialRank Realtime work?

Using a lot of the tech and design we built for SocialRank, we have built filters to let you set up the opportunities you want to look at. SocialRank Realtime acts as a feed of opportunities that refresh in realtime when new opportunities arrive. We are starting with four categories (Food, Beverage, Travel and Entertainment).

The other filters we have let you filter out based on are Location (City, State, Country), Size of Audience (0-25 Followers to 10k+ only,) Sensitive Content (Safe vs. Sensitive), Verified Accounts (Verified vs. Non-Verified,) Urgency Of Request (Today vs. This Week) and more to come. You can authenticate your company account to Reply and Direct Message opportunities.

When you receive an opportunity you can see more information about the account in question. We’ve built an amazing product around audience data, so we know a lot about the people behind the opportunities, at the moment of tweet. This is everything from notable people in their audience, how they identify, what else they talk about, etc. All you do is click more info on the opportunity card.

If you like the opportunity you can click the big blue “Take Action” button.

The actions you can take are a) Replying to the Tweet b) Sending a Direct Message c) Dispatching an Uber Rush and d) Requesting a Postmate. We will be building out more options as time goes on and new use cases arrive. The idea is to offer options that help you activate in the moment. How much does SocialRank Realtime cost?

SocialRank Realtime is starting off in beta. And while in beta, we are testing pricing models with brands and agencies. Depending on the size of brands, how many opportunities they want, the duration of the campaign will determine the cost. We will standardize this and publicize it once it comes out of beta.

New Sorting Option: Engagement

Last week we released a new feature in the profile card called Average Engagement Per Post. This metric looks at the engagement level each individual account gets from their audience (over their last 200 tweets on Twitter and 66 photos on Instagram). Now we’ve added the ability to sort your followers by this metric.

On Twitter you can rearrange your followers by Average Retweets or Average Likes (from highest to lowest).

On Instagram you can rearrange your followers by Average Comments or Average Likes (also highest to lowest).

It is a really useful metric to sort by — understanding which of your followers get the most engagement.

Average Engagement Per Post

You will begin to see a new feature in the profile card this week called Average Engagement Per Post. This feature provides insight into engagement your followers receive from their audience.

On Twitter, we show you the average ‘Retweets per post’ and average ‘Likes per post’. We take  the last 200 tweets per follower and average the total engagement across them.

On Instagram we show you the average ‘Comments per post’ and average ‘Likes per post’. We take the last 66 photos per follower and average the total engagement across them.

This number varies each time you refresh your account and the accounts that follow you have tweeted and received engagement.

We plan to offer a sorting option to rearrange your followers based on highest averages of comments/Retweets and Likes. Also in the near future, we will include this data into how we calculate the ‘Most Valuable’ sorting option.

How To Measure Partnerships using SocialRank

We often refer to SocialRank as a blank canvas because of the endless ways our clients use the product. One of the popular use cases we’ve seen is for measuring partnerships.

If you’re looking to measure partnerships you have with an influencer, another brand, or even just looking to compare your own accounts follow the below instructions.

Step 1: Run both your account and the partner account. (Unless you have access to both accounts, you’ll need SocialRank Market Intel, which allows you to run any account.)

*pro tip: you can also set filters to analyze specific data points, ie: to track followers you’ve gained in New York you can run a search for it using the Location filter.

Step 2: Using the Compare Accounts & Lists filter, look at the view for followers in common between the two accounts and save list as ‘@account + @partner_account overlap MM/DD/YY’

Step 3: Set a timeline for tracking changes, i.e weekly / monthly. Then refresh each account and repeat Step 2.

Step 4: Click on one of the lists to go into that view and then using the Compare Accounts & Lists filter again select the other list. You can then select the option to see which users you’ve gained.

SocialRank allows you to not just see how many followers you’ve gained but also delve deeper into exactly who these followers are. Whether it’s tracking data points such as location, verification, or specific topics the audience is talking about; you can get a lot of useful insight.

Set Custom Date Range for Activity Filter

We’ve had a lot of of our users request the ability to set a date range for activity filter, and recently we released a feature update that allows you to do just that.

All you have to do is click on the Activity Filter and select the option ‘Custom.’ This will open a prompt that will allow you to choose how far back you want to run the search for. For example if you want to see data for two weeks enter the number 14 in the popup window.

This is especially useful when you want to get very specific in your searches. For instance if you wanted to see who were active during the holidays you can set the date range for that month or week.

How to Get The Most Out of Account Summary Feature

When we think of SocialRank, we picture a blank canvas. There is so much you can do, and so the use cases are endless.

One of our most used feature is Account Summary.  SocialRank provides very granular data, but with Account Summary you get to see a snapshot of all your followers or a search query you’ve made. Data points include: Follower Activity, Follower Distribution, Top Follower Locations, Popular bio words, Popular words in posts, and Popular hashtags in posts, Popular cashtags and Popular emojis.

What’s great about Account Summary is that as you refresh and add different filters, the data updates for that audience. For example, if you’re Daniel Wellington and you enter a Bio Keyword search for ‘blogger,’ the macro data in Account Summary will reflect that specific demographic. This becomes very insightful and useful as you try to learn more about specific segmented audiences. Another way to use Account Summary is with a saved List. This will allow you to curate exactly who you’d like the macro level data on.

It becomes really interesting once you try out different queries; this is where you can get creative and as specific as you want. For instance, in the above example when you’re looking at the number of people that are bloggers following you, you can see exactly what percentage of them are active, and what content they’re talking about. This will help you be smarter in your approach to build a relationship, resulting in more engagement and activity with that audience.

Find Your Most Loyal Followers

Brand loyalty is often hard to determine on social media. A good place to start are your oldest followers. These are the people that followed you from the beginning; through your good posts and bad.

Using SocialRank’s Chronological (Oldest First) sorting option you can find your most loyal followers. The Chronological (Oldest First) sorting option shows users in the order of your oldest to newest followers.

A lot brands find this feature useful for loyalty programs or product giveaways. For example, if Nike wanted to give out new sneakers to select followers, they could use the Chronological (Oldest First) sorting option to find their most loyal followers and reward them. This creates really authentic social engagement with a brand’s audience.

Find Your Biggest Followers That Have Engaged With You

You have your most valuable followers and your most engaged followers, but what if you wanted to know which of your biggest followers have also engaged with you?

Using the SocialRank ‘Best Follower’ sorting option you can easily view your followers in order of value plus engagement. On Twitter it looks at the engagement with your tweets in the past 14 days, and on Instagram it looks at the engagement with your photos in the past 45 days.

Best Follower is a combination of the Most Valuable and Most Engaged sorting options. Most Engaged is based on Retweets, Replies, Mentions on Twitter and Likes, Comments, Tags on Instagram. Most Valuable is based on total followers, following/follower ratio and total engagement. Best Follower essentially takes all these factors into account.

This is especially useful for brands that want to look at both value and engagement at once. For example, let’s say a celebrity with 20M followers has retweeted a brand once or twice, they may not show up on the brands Most Engaged view (at least not until a few pages in,) because there are super fans that are constantly engaging. However, with Best Follower sorting, the celebrity would be pushed up on the list based on their value plus engagement.

Save DM Campaign Draft

We recently released an update for DM Campaigns on SocialRank. You’re now able to save a DM Campaign as a draft.

Before this update you had to make sure you had the final draft ready in order to use the DM Campaign feature. Now you can work on your DM Campaign locally on SocialRank and save it as a draft.
